By our third issue, we abandoned specializing in fantasy writing and became what we remain today: a general writers’ help serial publication!

Tickled by Thunder
Fiction Magazine (1990)

SUBSCRIBERS of Tickled by Thunder may send submissions via online form.

History:

Tickled by Thunder fiction magazine was launched in March, 1990 at Surrey, British Columbia, Canada -- composed entirely on a Commodore 64 computer for four subscribers. Originally, the magazine catered to science fiction and fantasy writers and helping them get published, but subscribers wanted a more general publication. By our third issue, we abandoned specializing and became what we remain today: a general writers' help serial publication.

The second issue was composed entirely on a Macintosh computer and we've been upgrading ever since. The layout is considered fresh and clean . . .

For a short time, the magazine was distributed for free to more than 15,000 readers around the Vancouver, British Columbia general area. But this ended abruptly when it was determined not only that advertising was too difficult to sell, but that our reader response had failed to increase. But mostly, our hearts just weren't into selling advertising.

Nevertheless, we continue to provide a quality publication for our subscribers, though not always as often as our readers would like.

ABOUT THE PUBLISHER . . .

Publisher Larry Lindner was a reporter for many years in British Columbia, Canada, and eventually rose to editor of the Similkameen Spotlight (Princeton, British Columbia), so it's no wonder he describes Tickled by Thunder as a 'newspaper for writers.' Until recently, Larry was Acting Production Manager for Trader.com in New Westminster, British Columbia. Now he works part time for the Langley Advance newspaper.

"I don't pretend to be a professional assessor of creative writing, I just like to help. I remember when Laurie Currie, the publisher of the Princeton paper said to me, 'you should always put something back into the community,' and those words stuck with me. I'm providing an opportunity -- I enjoy helping writers get published."

Other publications from Tickled by Thunder publishing company include 'Rocky Mountain Muffins' (a recipe collection -- honest!), 'The Year's Best Fiction' (a chapbook), 'The Year's Best Poetry' (another chapbook), and soon, a chapbook featuring the best of publisher Larry Lindner's poetry.

Tickled by Thunder was once nominated for the 'Fiction Fifty' by Writer's Digest magazine.
