LADY-FLASH-AND-DAZZLE
By Larry Lindner
Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
He pushed marbles into the slits
of his eyes
seeing her only in his mind
as this was the way he chose to see
and what he saw was the lady he always saw
a lady-flash-and-dazzle.
He closed her eyes and she crept
through the mystic
soon seeing, reflected in a tunnel of mirrors
images of their lives, criss-crossed in shadows on
the real
and what she saw was not what she dreamed . . .
So she put a monkee in his tea
marshmallows on the side
piled her memories by the door
welcome mat now lost in her eyes
and once again, she left her smile stained on his
lips.
And as always, he threw his feelings
to the sky
replaced his mask with humour
and held it up, upsidedown
as an umbrella to his tears.
